WOODLANDS CARAVAN PARK SCOOPS TOP GREEN ACCOLADE
Professor David Bellamy has named Woodlands Caravan Park in Southport as one of the UK's greenest holiday spots - and awarded it a special accolade for protecting and enhancing the natural world.
Set in 3 acres of countryside, Woodlands Caravan Park provides luxury holiday homes for sale and hire, and cottage apartments for hire.
Park owner, Andrew Chrysler’s efforts have now been rewarded by a David Bellamy Gold Conservation Award, described by Professor Bellamy as the 'Green Olympics' for holiday parks.
David Bellamy said he was "absolutely amazed" when he discovered just how much was being done by holiday parks to protect and enhance the environment.
"Many parks like this have created wildlife wonderlands, and I think it's time they were given deserved recognition for their big commitment," said Professor Bellamy.
Woodlands' award was made following a detailed audit of the park's environmental policies, supported by comments made by holidaymakers.
"Recieving a nationally recognised award is extremely rewarding," said Andrew, "but when the award is presented by one's childhood hero, then it is absolutely wonderful."
Andrew’s future plans for Woodlands Caravan Park include the reintroduction of species of native hedgerows once common in the area.
Woodlands Caravan Park is a member of the British Holiday & Home Parks Association, the park industry's official body, which is assisting Professor Bellamy with the conservation awards project.
